Cold temperatures and snow are in the forecast across central PA. Below-freezing conditions over the coming days increase the risk of icy roads, snow accumulation, and frozen or burst pipes. Now is the time to prepare your home and understand what to do if winter weather causes damage. Protect Your Home from Frozen Pipes Frozen and burst pipes are among the most common winter insurance claims. To help prevent frozen pipes: Keep your home heated (at least 55–60°F). Insulate exposed pipes in basements, crawl spaces, and garages. Let faucets drip slightly during extreme cold. Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate. Disconnect outdoor hoses and seal drafts. If a pipe freezes or bursts: Shut off your main water supply immediately. Turn off electricity in affected areas if water is present. Take photos of the damage and begin drying if safe. Report the claim as soon as possible.
