Protect Your Home from Frozen Pipes

Frozen and burst pipes are among the most common winter insurance claims.

To help prevent frozen pipes:

• Keep your home heated (at least 55–60°F).
• Insulate exposed pipes in basements, crawl spaces, and garages.
• Let faucets drip slightly during extreme cold.
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate.
• Disconnect outdoor hoses and seal drafts.

If a pipe freezes or bursts:

• Shut off your main water supply immediately.
• Turn off electricity in affected areas if water is present.
• Take photos of the damage and begin drying if safe.
• Report the claim as soon as possible.
